  1. Day 1 Arrival

Arrive at Xincheng Station in Hualien County, where we begin our trip. Our staff awaits to transfer to Taroko Gorge National Park, where varied mountain peaks, numerous waterfalls, diverse plant forms and animal life, together with the indigenous Taroko people, create a rich texture of a unique and natural ecosystem.

Begin our 4 hour hike to our aboriginal homestay for the night. We will climb up steep terrain to reach the villages above. Enjoy a welcome feast and views like no other within Taroko Gorge.

At night keep warm by the fire while gazing at the stars above. Listen to our host sing songs of the Truku tribe while playing guitar.

    Meals: Lunch, Dinner
  2. Day 2 Sunrise hike

Early morning wake up for a short hike up the mountain cliff to view sunrise over the Pacific Ocean. We will perch ourselves 1,000 meters above the ocean below, with the lights of the coastal towns lighting up the night while we await the sun’s arrival.

Return to our accommodation fro breakfast, coffee and tea before packing up and saying goodbye to our hosts. Hike down the mountain to Taroko Gorge National Park Visitor Center and transfer to our accommodation for the night.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
  3. Day 3 Taroko Classic

Wake up for breakfast at 7:00am. We will make our way back in to Taroko Gorge, to cruise along the many hiking paths. Taroko’s sheer marble walls tower above as we wind and walk along rivers, waterfalls, and look out for endemic birds and monkeys.

We will stop in TianXiang for lunch, before continuing with additional trails within Taroko Gorge. After a full day of exploration, we will transfer to our accommodation in Hualien City, get prepared, and visit Dongdamen Night Market.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
  4. Day 4 River Exploration

Starting in Hualien, we will drive roughly 30 minutes south towards the Truku land. The day starts with a man made waterfall, where we’ll find locals relaxing and barbecuing, however we will continue up, to a natural, gorgeous waterfall.

The trace is not too difficult, with the options to either climb through the rushing river, climb the mini waterfalls, or simply walk along the path when tired. Before reaching the waterfall, we will come to a spectacularly blue swimming hole, perfect for lunch and relaxation before continuing.

After tracing back downstream, we will make our way into the town for some aboriginal delicacies!

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  5. Day 5 Zhuilu Old Trail

We will take a journey back through the monumental walls of Taroko Gorge, along the Liwu river until we reach Swallows Grotto. Here the trail begins over a long suspension bridge towards Zhuilu Old Trail. The trail winds up the mountain, over gaps and suspension bridges, until we reach the old “cross mountain highway”of Taroko. The narrow cliffside of Zhuilu Old trail was used by aboriginal tribes to reach the western side of the Gorge, near Hehuanshan Mountains, until the Japanese invaded and used the same trail to attack and take over the local tribes. It was then turned into a Japanese tourist attraction. Now it is a wonderfully exciting hike, with a required good head for heights, that offers the most spectacular views from within the Gorge.

When we return from our hike, we will transfer to Xincheng station, to say our goodbyes. Option to return to Taipei, stay in Hualien, or continue south.
