Sanjhan Village & Golden Grotto
The Sanjhan (三棧) tribe and Golden Grotto are both located within the heart of Taroko. The people there are kind, welcoming, and best of all, lively. Upon arriving, we will be greeted with festivities, incredible food, and a taste of local culture and customs. You won’t experience another place quite as beautiful and intriguing as Sanjhan.

Our trip begins departing from Taipei city South to Hualien county. Upon arrival at the Sanjhan Village campsite we participate in several festivities including archery, painting, tattooing (temporary), learning about the history and culture of the Sanjhan people, and sampling some amazing food.
After experiencing the local Sanjhan customs, it’s time to set up camp and go into town to meet the locals and view some aboriginal artifacts.
If you want, KTV with the locals is an option!
On the second day, we will wake bright and early for our long day of beautiful river tracing and cliff jumping. The waters leading to the Golden Grotto are pristine and shimmer with a beautiful turquoise color. The trek will be tiring, but incredibly eventful. On our way, we will stop for lunch and proceed to climb the waterfalls leading into the massive grotto entrance. Our trek ends at a beautiful 20 meter waterfall within the cave itself.
After returning to Sanjhan Village, take the train back to Taipei.
